Steps To Becoming A Legal Consultant

Step 1: Earn a Bachelor's Degree. 

According to the BLS, individuals must obtain a bachelor's degree before entering law school. However, BLS recommends that interested students take courses in government, mathematics, English, history, communication, and economics. Undergraduates can study in almost any field.

Step 2: Pass the LSAT. 

Acceptance into law school is often conditional upon how well students score on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), a national exam administered by the Law School Admission Council, Inc. There are five sections to each exam that comprises multiple-choice questions.

Step 3: Complete Law School. 

In most cases, receiving a Juris Doctor degree from law school takes three years to complete after the Bachelor's degree program. The first year is loaded with structured course requirements and may introduce classes covering torts, constitutional laws, contracts, property law, civil procedure, and criminal law.

Step 4: Get Additional Specialty Training. 

Legal consultants often choose their specialty field while still in law school, and many individuals learn about the laws connected with that specialty during their elective studies. However, some specialties may require further training outside of law school. 

Step 5: Pass the State Bar. 

Legal counsel doesn't need to pass the state bar exam. However, employers prefer applicants with court experience, and individuals interested in working for such employers must pass the necessary state bar exams.

Step 6: Build Experience.

Most employers choose candidates with at least three years of general legal experience. Many of these same employers want applicants who have multiple years of extra experience in specific fields, such as real estate law, health care, or foreign business affairs.

To become a corporate lawyer, you must first obtain a law degree, either by enrolling in a five-year Bachelor of Law (B.A. LL.B) program after completing their higher secondary education (Class 12) or by enrolling in a three-year B.A. LL.B program after obtaining a bachelor's degree in any discipline. To be admitted to a law school in India, you must first pass the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
