City Lawyers Boycott Court

Extend support for Nationwide stir called by Bar Council of India

Mysuru:  Extending their support to the nationwide stir called by the Bar Council of India (BCI) seeking fulfilment of demands concerning the Advocates fraternity, members of the Mysore Bas Association boycotted Court proceedings yesterday.

The Lawyers, who gathered at Mahatma Gandhi’s bust opposite City Law Courts complex, went in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office passing through Krishnaraja Boulevard and presented a memorandum containing their charter  of demands.

The demands put forth by the BCI included allocation of Rs.5,000 crore in the Union Budget for the welfare of lawyers, a stipend of Rs.10,000 for young lawyers for the first five years of practice and insurance cover for lawyers and others in the Judiciary.

They also demanded that the Karnataka Government earmark Rs.100 crore for Lawyer’s Welfare Fund on the lines of Telangana Government.

Mysore Bar Association President S. Anand Kumar, Vice-President S.G. Shivanne Gowda, Secretary B. Shivanna, Joint Secretaries C.K. Rudramurthy and M. Manonmani and Treasurer G.P. Chandrashekar and others led the protest.

Agnipath scheme: Agniveer registration for Air Force starts today.

The registration for the first batch of Agniveers- the recruits of the new military Agnipath scheme- for the Indian Air Force (IAF) begins Friday and the online examination will be held exactly a month later (July 24). "Registration process for the first batch of Agniveers will start from June 24. The Phase 1 online examination process would start on July 24. The first batch would be enrolled by December and training would commence by December 30," Air Marshal SK Jha said during the joint press conference of the tri-services held on June 19.
